Holiday © Erica Raftery

falls brief stay
has given way
to winters cold winds
bare trees throwing bleak shadows
across barren fields of brown and gray
inside, the dog quietly chews his rawhide
while mom is in the kitchen
strenuously preparing dinner
she whips the potatoes like a human tornado
these potatoes will not have any lumps
she promises her family
I sit quietly by the fire reading a book
and listening to the burning wood
and how it resembles a tree limb snapping off
when its time to eat
mom says, "gather 'round"
we say a quick prayer
and then we all chow down
when our bellies are full
we will sit on the couch
and listen to each other
tell jokes of one another
when the joking is done
we will all go home
and wait for sound
of the white haired jolly fellow's reindeer
to clomp on top of the house
pyramids of presents are
then put under the tree
two for you and four for me.

Saturday, March 24, 2012 What Is A Woman by Indie

Is it her smile
Her ability to procreate
swaying hips and big lips
or is it her staying power
baby sick
accounts overdrawn

when he turns to her as he walks out the door
her steady smile
fueling him

Is it her soft touch
on the pillow each night
of her young
that which helps them grow
like vitamins for the soul

or maybe that smile of letting go
when her job is done
her young unsure
but knowing they must leave

the steady look in her eyes
that says yes
leave
leave me and fly
soar

carry yourself far
for that is what I dreamed for you
way long ago
while I rocked you in my arms

Value Air, Food, Water, and Trees!

People out there won't stop differentiating stuff,
Biases play a role,
Do you see the whole picture?
we breathe, the air,
in and out,
take what our body need,
and omit the waste at the same time
in the same space,
for fitness reasons,
But air itself is both helpful and harmful,
it hurts you
when you choose to live in a small room
without opening your window,
Air is 100% fair
to everyone on earth,
and free to all of us!
#
Food is what we eat,
Rice is grain crop,
Bakery is also grain crop,
Both are good for you,
so like it or not,
No one can get ride of food,
the way we need it
is the same we need air, water, or poetry.
#
poetry is life,
words fly out of your mouth
in air, or under your pen,
they make senses,
and have power,
It doesn't matter
how professional or raw your skills are!

You Were There © Emily Robinson

when tears fell from my eyes
you were there to brush them away
when I was lost in confusion
you were there to say that everything would be okay
when I stood before you falling apart
you were there to lend your heart
when I felt like no one could understand
you were there to take my hand
when no one else was left to care
you were there

The Kink and I

I have a kitty cat that kinks,
Emotional reaction kicks and winks,
This I confess is confusing,
None is sure where it is leading,
Rats roam the street in distance,
Men drank, falter, and wince,
The call to kink and kill is strong,
Responsibility seems a compass to correct the wrong,
Goose bumps, red lumps,
oil lamps, shivering swamps,
The kitty makes its way to victory,
Which is enough for a whole story.
When the places go neat after,
All citizens roll with thrilling laughter.
